Diego Guerrero y el Solar de Artistas @ City Recital Hall Angel Place Sydney - Friday, 9 March 2012

Flamenco vocal sensation Diego Guerrero and Madrid-based band El Solar de Artistas make their Australian performance debut at City Recital Hall Angel Place
Friday 9 March 2012

In their first Australian performance together, international vocal musician Diego Guerrero and his extraordinary Latin flamenco band El Solar de Artistas will captivate at Sydney’s City Recital Hall Angel Place on Friday 9 March at 8pm when they perform a wonderfully diverse concert that traverses the genres of guaguanco, bulería, tango, copla and rumba flamenca.

Diego Guerrero y el Solar de Artistas are a fast rising force on the international music scene, with Guerrero recently described as the “Quincy Jones of flamenco”. At just 29 years of age, this talented young flamenco vocalist is also making a name for himself as a gifted arranger and composer.

Formed in 2010 by Diego Guerrero and his percussionist wife Nasrine Rahmani, El Solar de Artistas is an elite selection of flamenco and Latin musicians residing in Spain who fuse traditional flamenco with Afro-Cuban rhythms and contemporary jazz.

In 2010 Diego Guerrero and an Australian line-up, Diego Guerrero Flamenco Latin Quintet, completed two sold-out tours of Australia which included two concerts in Sydney. In 2012 Guerrero brings his Madrid-based line-up to Australia for the first time.

Some of the entrancing tunes on the program include Primavera, a gorgeous ballad by one of Guerrero’s favourite singers and good friend Alex Oliveira, and Malos Tiempos which Nasrine Rahmani said “is probably Diego’s theme song.”

Another crowd pleaser, according to Nasrine, is A Farina.

“A Farina is a huge crowd favourite,” said Nasrine.

“It’s actually a bit of a mystery to us, but everywhere in the world, regardless of the language or culture, it’s always a favourite.”

Diego Guerrero y el Solar de Artistas will perform at City Recital Hall Angel Place for one night only on Friday 9 March at 8pm.
