Jason Derulo and Mumford & Sons continue to top ARIA Charts…

Holding at the top of the ARIA Singles and Digital Track Chart for the second consecutive week is US singer/songwriter Jason Derulo with his smash hit “In My Head”. The No.1 single follows on from his Platinum debut “Whatcha Say”, which peaked at No.5 and remains in the top 40 after sixteen weeks in the chart. British quartet Mumford & Sons continues to dominate the ARIA Album Chart, remaining in peak position for the third week straight with their debut release “Sigh No More”.

Joining Jason Derulo in the upper reaches of the ARIA Singles Chart is recent tourist Rihanna, who claims her fourth Australian top 2 single with “Rude Boy” jumping six spots to second position this week. She has achieved ARIA number one singles with “SOS” (2006) and “Umbrella” (2007), with “Unfaithful” peaking at #2 in 2006. After taking out multiple honours at the recent American Grammy Awards and Brit Awards, Lady Gaga achieves her first new top 10 hit of the year, bringing her tally of ARIA chart top 10 singles to five. “Telephone”, which features Beyonce, blasts up nine spots to No.8, as her former top 10 single “Bad Romance” sits at No.15 after spending the first three weeks of the decade at No.3.

In further ARIA Singles Chart news, Train returns from a three-year hiatus to make a cracking No.16 debut with their new single “Hey, Soul Sister”, their first Australian charting single since “Calling All Angels” in 2003. Also debuting this week is “If We Ever Meet Again” from Timbaland (featuring Katy Perry) at No.26, which is closely followed by Pitbull’s “Shut It Down” up nine spots to No.28 and Alicia Keys’ “Put It In A Love Song” which enters at No.29.  Florence + The Machine’s cover of “You’ve Got The Love”, originally by The Source (featuring Candi Staton), is the fifth single from the English outfit and enters the singles chart at No.35.

k.d. lang reaches new heights on the ARIA Album Chart this week, following her appearance at the Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. “Recollection” slips into second position after its No.3 debut last week, giving k.d. her highest-charting Australian album to date. In the country recently for the Laneway Festival and select sideshows, Florence + The Machine climbs four spots from No.12 to 8 with debut album “Lungs”, which hits the top 10 for the first time. After debuting at No.16 in July last year, the album remained in the top 100 until November and then dropped out until the last week of the year, gradually climbing through this year.  Just missing out on a top 10 debut is triple CD compilation “Before Too Long: Triple J’s Tribute To Paul Kelly”, a live recording of the concert which took place in Melbourne last year and featured performances from Australian artists Missy Higgins, Dan Sultan, Katy Steele, John Butler and Dan Kelly among many others. It comes in at No.11.

Also of note this week is Rihanna’s “Rated R” which jumps eight spots to No.13 on the ARIA Album Chart, along with “Rush To Relax” from Australian garage-rockers Eddy Current Suppression Ring, which debuts at No.20 and follows-up the band’s 2009 AMP-winning album “Primary Colours”. Moving from No.28 to 21 is David Guetta’s “One Love”, with “American Vi: Ain’t No Grave” from Johnny Cash entering just below at No.22. Off the back of national Australian tours, both George Michael and Whitney Houston re-enter the top 40 this week. George Michael comes in at No.24 with “Twenty Five” while Whitney Houston’s “The Ultimate Collection” sits comfortably at No.34.

US electro outfit Passion Pit also make their way back into the top 40, with their debut album “Manners” at No.36. “Reunited” from Cliff Richard & The Shadows achieves a No.40 debut, following a national tour that finished in Sydney last week.

The top two positions on the ARIA Digital Tracks Chart remain unchanged this week, with Owl City’s “Fireflies” up a spot to No.3, Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” jumping three spots to No.4 and “Tik Tok (Parody)” from The Midnight Beast rounding out the top 5. “Telephone” from Lady Gaga (featuring Beyonce) blasts up eight spots to No.8, Train scores a No.15 debut with “Hey, Soul Sister” and  “If We Ever Meet Again” from Timbaland (featuring Katy Perry) enters at No.25. “You’ve Got The Love” from Florence + The Machine debuts at No.34, as heart-throb Justin Bieber (featuring Ludacris) re-enters the top 40 at No.38 with “Baby”.

Over on the ARIA Music DVD Chart, Cliff Richard & The Shadows have ended P!nk’s record-breaking twenty week chart-topping run, knocking “Funhouse” from the pinnacle with their DVD “Live In London 2009”.
