Monday 2 August: Today 40 young Australians living in regional Australia were announced as Optus Sound Scribes for 2010 and will commence their cadetship in writing music news and reviews, and ultimately work towards their goal of becoming Australia’s inaugural Optus Sound Scribe of the Year.
Over the next three months, each Optus Sound Scribe will be producing a music blog and reporting about their town’s local music and entertainment scene on their own personal reporting page www.optussoundscribe.com.au. In addition the Industry Panel experts will be sharing their experiences and insights with the Scribes to give them guidance in how to become a successful music journalist. Through an online voting process each Optus Sound Scribe will also vie for opportunities to interview artists providing them with exclusive content for their online profile.
With bands such as Powderfinger, Art v’s Science, Angus & Julia Stone and John Butler Trio planning regional tours in the next three months, there will be plenty of opportunities for these budding music writers to review renowned performers as well as local bands and artists.
All Australians can get involved by voting and submitting artist questions to their favourite Optus Sound Scribe and in turn could win great prizes, including music vouchers and a Nokia phone every week. By supporting their favourite Scribe and signing their petition they are helping them get closer to winning a major gig in their town, as well as the ultimate goal of becoming Optus Sound Scribe of the Year, winning a trip to LA, a placement at a music magazine in Sydney and an internship to work behind the scenes at a major Australian music festival.
Optus Sound Scribe Ambassador Andrew Günsberg said “After working in Australia for many years and now in Los Angeles, I’m looking forward to mentoring the forty finalists in the Optus Sound Scribe initiative to get some exiting things happening for budding music writers and Aussie bands in regional areas. The possibilities for the winner are really exciting, so we’re urging all our Optus Sound Scribes who are looking at this as a way into the music industry to get online and get involved. Their friends and local community also get to share in the fun with great prizes for helping their scribe get ahead.”
The three Optus Sound Scribes with the highest number of votes at the end of the three months will be judged on their journalistic achievements by the Expert Industry Panel who will decide who will take out the title of Optus Sound Scribe of the Year.
