Announce Their New Single I Am Dog
The first track off their brand new album Found Things
& National ‘Regurgitator’ Support To Boot
In the 18 months since the release of their debut album “St Ill Regal”, Laneous and the Family Yah have been carving their own distinctive trail through the country.
In amongst heavy touring, festival appearances and the release of 3 x limited edition EP’s, L&TFY have been recording new material and are pleased to announce the impending September release of their 2nd album Found Things.
The first taste of the Found Things is new single, the infectious pop morsel of I Am Dog. Thinly-veiled metaphors and sexual tension, I Am Dog is Laneous at his most absolute and the Family Yah at their dirty-pop finest. Wrapped in croon-punk swagger. Written in a flurry and quickly added to the album just before closing, the spontaneity of the track at first caught the band off guard, but they moved mountains to get it onto the album. Explains Laneous:
“When I wrote this song, we had already finished tracking the album and so the band were pretty reluctant to look at it, but after one listen any rational thinking about time, budget or respect for the engineer got trumped and we were in the studio within a day or two pumping out an extra song for already 16 track record on a ridiculously tight deadline.”
Da Clip
With the final bits and pieces on the album rapidly coming together, Laneous and the Family Yah enlisted fellow West Ender Stylesy, known for his role on Rumpus TV, to shoot and produce the I Am Dog video. Filmed on location in their local suburban West End haunts, Dog, Cat & Pigeon Zoo (DCPZ ) Keeper James Lane, the stories protagonist –– sets about rounding up the local riff-raff and cleaning up the streets.
“The concept was that we would basically go to the streets and coerce West End characters – some friends, most total strangers and definitely none pre-prepared to give us their best dog, cat or pigeon impression. The rest was total chance – honest reactions caught on camera as a lunatic in a retro safari outfit with a massive net tried to capture them.
Both the film clip and audio single for I Am Dog are on the loose nationally NOW through Bird Fire Records – check out the clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0n5ED48aL8Q
Laneous & The Family Yah
Laneous & The Family Yah make Grunty Indie Soul and Croon Punk for your earholes. Together with the all singing, all dancing Bird Fire Choir, Laneous navigates his band through abstract hip hop, punk and old soul.
The release of their debut album St. Ill Regal last August saw the band burst onto the national radar with Triple J spinning single Searing Life on rotation, a QSong award, a Parklife Unearthed Win and critical acclaim around the country. This saw the band spend the best part of 2009 on the road.
“Found Things”
Having tuned a high energy dynamic live show the old fashioned way – through grueling trips up and down the coast, crashing on floors and fighting for DJ duties in the bus, their Sophomore Album Found Things is Laneous & The Family Yah at their most direct. A fight between the animal and the evolved, it’s an uncompromised and highly joyous offering of soul, punk and hip hop. Set for release in September 2010 (through Bird Fire Records), stay tuned for more details.
