Catherine Traicos: 'Notes From Hell'

6/09/2010 1:46:45 PM

The breakout success of her 2009 release "The Amazing” saw an emboldened Catherine Traicos set out to write and record an ambitious three-part album based on Dante's "Divine Comedy".

In her typically matter-of-fact manner, Catherine delved deep into her own personal experiences of depression, where she soon found herself up against a tower of memories and emotions. Overwhelmed by these and by the magnitude of the work she was taking on, the captivating chanteuse decided to take a step back from the situation. Magically, the songs began to flow.

"Notes From Hell" explores the development of a work that will sadly likely never see the light of day, by one of Australian music's rising stars. It incorporates Traicos' characteristic dark humour coupled with heart rending melodies and catchy chorus lines.

Reluctant to let this massive project slip through her fingers entirely, Catherine will present selected songs across the themes of travels through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven in a one-off Fringe Festival show.

This is a show not to be missed, and will particularly appeal to fans of Eels, Tom Waits and Natalie Merchant, with its darkly beautiful songs that are as light as they are heavy.
