Kid Confucius have driven their soulmobile into the garage, they’re getting their hands dirty and rebuilding their sound into a roaring rock-soul hybrid. Fuelled by an ever-expanding pool of inspiration and the addition of new guitarist James Manson, Kid Confucius brazenly rattle their own foundations with the unveiling of ‘Good Luck’, the first single which will be available digitally on 26th July from the band’s forthcoming album.
The new Kid Confucius album, the band’s third in as many years, signifies a radical and electrifying shift in style and sound. While touring and playing big festivals late 2007 the Kid Confucius boys came to the realisation that they were in fact a rock band, and before they could think twice about it, a stack of new, heart-thumping songs had been written and a new lead guitarist had joined the ranks.
"This new album marks such a dramatic shift for Kid Confucius, and so it’s important that the first single completely embodies that difference. This song should really grab people, shake them around and smack them in the face. There’s no time to ease people into what we’ve become!” – Andrew Guirguis, Rhythm Guitarist Kid Confucius.
While the first two albums (‘Kid Confucius’ and ‘Stripes’) demonstrated the band’s dexterity at jumping between genres, switching effortlessly between hip-hop, soul, pop and rock, Kid Confucius is at last being true to itself and staking claim to an honest, bare-bones sound that is the band’s own. Call it Garage Soul, call it Dance-floor Rock, call it Soul Pop-Rock, call it what you will. Whatever it is, it’s Kid Confucius finally letting it all hang out…..
“The only reference I can come up with is Kings of Leon meets Otis Redding. But that’s not even the half of it. This new direction is the result of boiling Kid Confucius down to its core – and at the core we are a rock band that plays soul music. We learnt this important truth about ourselves while touring extensively last year and we look forward to touring again this August, because the new songs and new sound are custom-made for being bashed out on stage," said Guirguis.
The single ‘Good Luck’, will be released digitally 26th July through Brighton Boulevard Records / Inertia. Be amongst the first to catch Kid Confucius’ brand new material in an electrifying live performance at one of their ‘Sneak Peek’ shows taking place at a venue near you throughout August.
