From The Gnome: The Screaming Jets

Saturday, 12 July 2008
Why don’t people get out there and see live music? Is it just Sydney with pathetically small audiences? People talk about the hey days back in the 70s and 80s when you could go see great bands every weekend. Well, you know what? THERE ARE GREAT BANDS PLAYING EVERY WEEKEND! You people are just too lazy to go home from work, eat your dinner, and then go out into the cold night to rock. You’re too old.

New Amp!

My day yesterday was filled with Google, Ebay, Harmony Central, and phone calls to several music stores. In the end, I bought it at 3:00, loaded it into my car, lugged it to a gig, and played through it for the first time at 9:30. We didn't even get a sound check.

Never start a trio with a married couple. Before you sign a record deal, look up the word "recoupable" in the dictionary. No one cares who you've opened for. A string section does not make your songs sound any more "important".

Live Music/Smoke Free!

Thursday, 5 July 2007
It is OUR RESPONSIBILITY to GET OUT THERE and fill up the pubs. If we sit in front of the TV while the live music is playing, then the live music will go away. If we stand outside with our smoking friends while the live music is playing, then the live music will go away.

Before the Music Dies

Thursday, 12 April 2007
It's not just you and me; people all over the world are concerned about the music industry. A documentary has been developed in America that challenges us to think about the record industry and the music industry. I haven't seen it yet, but it's coming to a theatre near you in May. I'm sure it is pertinent in Australia....
